Why do actors take Uncredited Roles?

There is no single answer to this question because actors do this for more than one reason. The word uncredited next to a name means that the person did not receive an on-screen credit -- in other words, their name does not appear in the main or end titles of the film or show. A typical example is when a famous actor has an unbilled cameo appearance in a film.

The Screen Actors Guild sets certain required pay scales for actors. In some cases, actors will agree to pay adjustments or a lack of credit as a favor to a friend directing the film (Robin Williams in Baron Munchausen) or just to have the chance to cameo in the film for fun.

A cameo is just a short appearance by a well-known actor, often just for fun. For instance. If you ever saw any of the recent Marvel films, Stan Lee makes a Cameo in all of them. Though now that he has died, people are winding which upcoming Marvel film will be the first one without him. Typically, an uncredited role by a well-known celebrity.
  • The actor is so disappointed with the performance or the production process that they ask for their name to be removed…
  • They disagree with the creative decisions…
  • They dissatisfied with production quality…
  • They have their own reasons to do so…
  • The actor’s agent is unable to negotiate a fitting place in the hierarchy of the credits and so removal from the credits entirely makes more sense (and a statement) …
  • The actor is a celebrity and is working in a production for artistic and supportive reasons and wants the film to stand on its own marketing legs…
  • The actor hasn’t chosen to not be credited but the producers have, by mistake, left them out…
  • Actor removed, cause he/she become infamous (he can be cut from the titles or cut entirely) …
  • Current political state does not approve him/her…
