CAN A MOVIE EXTRA HAVE LINES IN A FILM? (In the Entertainment industry.)
Can a movie extra have lines in a film?
An extra can be chosen to speak lines for a film, yes. Though once you agree to this, you are no longer an extra. A lot of films hire a separate company to hire extras and direct/manage them for the Director. As an extra you work for this separate company, but if you get lines in a movie, your officially given a “role title” (usually something small like cafe worker or business man or whatever) and sign a contract from the production/film company instead. You are now being paid by the same people paying the main actors instead of the company who manages the extras.
There isn’t any real trick to getting lines for a film without auditioning for a speaking part. Many times, you are chosen at random, being in the right place at the right time.
