WHAT IS A WALK ON ROLE IN A
MOVIE? (In the Entertainment industry.)
A walk-on
part in a play is a very small part in which the actor is on the stage for a
short time and speaks very few or no words.
Walk-ons are
people who appeared for a short time and don’t speak. In a lot of movies, you
see a bunch of people on a street, just milling around. Most of those are
walk-ons. They literally walk onto the set or shooting location for a minute or
two and then leave. A walk-on is essentially someone who has a role where they
appear once in a movie, where they walk past or appear in the background only once.
A student athlete that wants to try out for a college
sports/athletic team without the benefit of a scholarship or having been
recruited. An actor of a small (or "bit") part in a theatrical
production or film, often without speaking lines. (chiefly attributive) Such a
part in a play or film.
A walk-on part differs from an extra in that an actor in a
walk-on part does something that the audience is expected to notice. An extra
is simply a member of a crowd, or is in the background of a scene, and isn't
necessarily a trained actor.
