WHAT ARE MOVIE PRODUCTION CASH REBATES?  

Cash Rebates: Cash rebates are paid to production companies directly by the state, usually as a percentage of the company's qualified expenses.   

In practice the incentive means that the states, regional and national cash rebate can be applied for professional entertainment, documentary, drama, movie and VR productions. In addition the cash rebate can be applied for their pre- and post-production phases.

All cash rebates are determined by the minimum amount of expenditure of the budget in the local, state, regional or national film commissions or rebate/incentive programs.

Usual Eligible costs: 

• Purchases of goods and services, and the rental of equipment and facilities for production purposes from companies who are operating in the local, state, regional or national production areas…
• Salaries are usually subject to withholding tax…
• Other costs (usually a flat rate) to a pre determine percentage of the sum of total of salaries and purchases. Other eligible costs which do not have to be itemized may include for example travel expenses…
