A LOOK AT MILITARY COMEDY FILMS. (In the Entertainment industry.)
A look at Military Comedy Films.
Military comedy films involve comic situations in a military setting. When a film is primarily about the experience of civilians called into military service and still feeling out of place, it may be referred to as a "service comedy". Because war is such a grim subject, many military comedies are set in peacetime or during wartime but away from battle zones.
As situational comedies they can present the realities of serving in the military. Presenting and highlighting the camaraderie and chaos that military service can entail.
Military and service comedies include: Shoulder Arms (1918), The Great Dictator (1940), I Was A Male War Bride (1949), How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964), Mister Roberts (1955), Operation Petticoat (1959), Father Goose (1964), Kelly’s Heroes (1970), Catch-22 (1970), The Last Detail (1973), 1949 (1979), Private Benjamin (1980), Stripes (1981), Mash (1981), Good Morning, Vietnam (1987), Biloxi Blues (1988), Hot Shots (1991), Forrest Gump (1994), In the Army Now (1994), Operation Dumbo Drop (1995), Down Periscope (1996), Three Kings (1999), Buffalo Soldiers (2001), Delta Farce (2007), The Men Who Stare at Goats (2009), etc.
